world on screen...

i haven't been to the rest of the world, yet the world never cease to amaze me...i'm glad i have these... for the time being...

foreign films is love....

like i've always said, there is no greater medium to educate the world with ones culture than through moving pictures. this is the best thing about foreign films, plots are so original that it's making fiction an inch closer to reality. reality though, is not what it will always seem to be, but it's the only world we're living in...so dealing with it... is the only way.

City of God
"disturbingly amazing..."

set in the slums of Brasilia while vividly depicting how the thin the line is between innocence and madness. watching this movie made me question two things... WHERE ON EARTH ARE THE PARENTS OF THESE KIDS?! and IS THIS FOR REAL?!... true enough it really was based on a true story... watch it! it's highly recommended.. (as if my word matters.. ;)

Turtles can fly
"a beautiful melancholy"

it's a sad reality how children are forced to grow up in times of war while only limiting their choices to either life or death. but watching this Iran-Iraqi movie will make you admire the spirit of these kids and at the same make you thank God that you were not born in a war torn place. it's an adorably sad movie. adorable, because some kids were just adorable (especially that cry baby kid, him crying was a comic relief... i have a very twisted emotion... excuse it), and sad because .... you'll just have to see it for yourself.

"click the title for the trailer"

i haven't seen the movie yet, but when it's the thespian Gael Garcia Bernal on the lead, plus under the direction of Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu it's a sure fire win. Basing on the trailer i'm betting that it's a very dark sinister movie. been wanting to see this for a long time, but unfortunately it doesn't have any subtitles in it. i hate that my parents didn't pay much importance to the spanish language. now i'm very dependent to subtitles! tsk!

"click the title for the trailer"

still haven't seen this movie and still searching for it online. i love that it's a crime movie set in France with a mafia twist in it. i'm crazy about mafias and their twisted way of life and how they never do things halfway. i've been dying dying to see this movie, so please if you have any link to this movie online please let me know and i'll forever be grateful. just to add a bit of sweetness to my convincing powers.. you have no idea what i'll be like when i'm grateful =D

to more movies to come... looking forward to the Jap Film Fest next month while hoping that Cebu will have it's own Cinemalaya...

Once...

It was a year or so ago since I got acquainted with this movie but it was only yesterday that I came around to watching it. To begin with it was the soundtrack that got me hooked, but now that I've seen it, it's the movie itself that got me passing it forward to 1 or 2 or 3 of my reader/s slash loyal buddies. haha.

Why i like this movie is because of it's very simple plot and the fact that it's not your average girl-meets-boy-and-off-to-wonderlust-kinda-thing. It's very platonic yet very compelling. And if I were to meaningfully dissect it further, I'd say that it's simply about how ONCE in our life's journey we encounter stranger/s who, unknowingly, can lead us back to the track of our destiny. SWELL!!! as in like The Swell Season, the band that stars in this movie... again... SWELL! (wink*)

for ONCE enjoy....

trailer mania

I seldom watch movies inside the movie house (with the exception of freebie film fests =)), that on an average I probably just shell out P150 once a year to catch a movie. But with all these taken into consideration, I still consider myself to be a big lover of rolling films. Ironic, I know. But through the intense competition and hard selling of "debedee retailers" on the side.. streets, I get to enjoy 3 movies with my P150. So that should explain why I came to be a lover of movies.
Going back, on those very seldom times that I watch a movie, the legal way, I always look forward to the trailer. I like watching trailers, it gives me a certain fascination. I like the idea that a number of movies are squeezed into a few good minutes coz it makes me feel as if I've already watched a lot of movies, even though in reality they are just pseudo-movies. If only trailers can be movies and a movie can all be trailers, then I would certainly have no second thoughts spending P150. But hey that's just me and my odd ball way of thinking.
I'm just sooooooo glad that youtube was invented coz I get to see my trailers anytime I want. Though the feel is not quite the same as when inside the moviehouse but at least it is an almost. Ergo, I shall not complain.
Anyway let me share this must watch movie and must have debedee...just click on the titles
